CHILDREN'S charity the Alannah and Madeline Foundation will consider reinstating tenor Peter Brocklehurst as its ambassador after a restraining order against him was revoked.

Brocklehurst resigned from the foundation in April after being confronted by a television reporter at the launch of a campaign against child abuse. A magistrate lifted the order yesterday, five weeks before it was due to lapse.

"It's great to know that I have been vindicated and for everyone to know that I'm not a baddie," Brocklehurst said. The charity's chief executive, Andrew Chappell, said a decision on whether Brocklehurst would be reinstated was likely within a month.

Brocklehurst had been the charity's ambassador for a month when he was forced to resign. The singer, 43, said he was highly embarrassed and went through a "devastating nightmare" after the restraining order became public. He said the order had been motivated by jealousy. -- ADAM MORTON
